BJP’s Nainar Nagenthran seeks probe into college’s role after student killed

Tamil Nadu BJP leader Nainar Nagenthran on Wednesday demanded stringent action against the management of Hindusthan College in Coimbatore following the alleged killing of a third-year student who had reportedly complained about drug trafficking on the campus.

Expressing shock over the death of Amuthan, Nagenthran said the circumstances surrounding the incident raised serious questions about the safety of students who report suspected illegal activities to college authorities.

According to Nagenthran, Amuthan had approached the college administration with information about alleged drug trafficking. He was subsequently attacked by a group of around 20 people and beaten to death, the BJP leader alleged.

Nagenthran conveyed his condolences to Amuthan’s parents and family and called for a comprehensive investigation into the events leading to the fatal attack.

He also targeted the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay over the incident, questioning the effectiveness of its campaign against narcotics. Nagenthran alleged that the killing highlighted the extent of the drug problem in Tamil Nadu and the risks faced by those attempting to expose it.

The BJP leader said the police investigation should not be restricted to identifying those directly involved in the attack. He demanded that investigators examine how information about the student’s complaint became known and whether there had been any lapse on the part of the college administration in maintaining confidentiality.

Nagenthran urged police to immediately identify and arrest all those involved in Amuthan’s killing and ensure a fair and impartial investigation.

He further demanded stringent action against the college management if the investigation established that details of the complaint had been disclosed or that negligence on its part had placed the student in danger.

The incident, he said, required accountability at every level and measures to ensure students could report suspected drug-related activities without fear of retaliation.
