PM Narendra Modi lashes out against DMK, Congress at Madurai

Prime minister Narendra Modi said that DMK and Congress has failed to understand the ethos of the people of Madurai and charged that the Congress manifesto of 2016 promised to ban “Jallikettu” .He was addressing a public rally for the NDA at Madurai on Friday.

Modi said, “The DMK and Congress should be ashamed of themselves. People wanted a solution and wanted Jallikettu to continue. Our government then cleared ordinance by AIADMK which allowed it to take place.”

Prime minister said that food processing a major area of focus for the BJP and NDA and said that new start ups are also being promoted by the Government of India. He stressed on the idea of water conservation and said ,” We are working on the idea of “Per drop more crop”, and is working with farmers to ensure that more water is saved and agriculture production is up”. He said that the government of India implemented the “Jal Jeevan Mission” to ensure tap water to every home in the country by 2024.

Narendra Modi said, “In Tamil Nadu 16 lakh tap water connections have been provided since the launch of the mission”.

Prime minister also said that the people of Madurai are very hospitable and reminisenced on how people of Saurashtra who had come a few years before to Madurai had benefitted from the largesse of people. He said “ Ek Bharath, Shreshtha Bharath”.

He said that funds allocated for railway infrastructure for Tamil Nadu has increased by 238 percent compared to 2019. Prime minister also said that Madurai has a special association with former Chief minister late MGR and reminiscined the association MGR had with TM Soundrarajan.

 Narendera Modi also said that Congress dismissed democratically elected MGR government in the 1980’s and again won from Madurai in 1977, 1980 and 1984 and won from constituencies around this place and said that the place is closely associated with the world’s oldest language, Tamil.

Chief Minister Edappady  K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam were present in the programme.
