Shweta Menon Quits AMMA Membership After Executive Committee Resigns Amid Fresh Turmoil

- June 21, 2026

Kochi, June 21: Actor Shweta Menon on Sunday announced her resignation from the membership of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), hours after the organisation’s executive committee stepped down following dramatic developments at its General Body meeting.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Shweta said she could no longer continue in the organisation and declared that she was no longer a member of AMMA from Sunday onwards. The actor, who headed the outgoing executive committee, said she had always been outspoken and could not remain silent on issues she believed were important.

Shweta alleged that certain members had attempted to use a predetermined agenda to target and expel some artists from the organisation. She further claimed that individuals facing allegations had effectively regained control of the association, leading to the latest crisis within AMMA.

“If I were willing to remain a puppet, I could have continued in the organisation. But I cannot do that,” she told reporters, expressing disappointment over the developments within the association.

The actor also raised questions about the financial accounts of the organisation during the tenure of former office-bearer Baburaj, stating that there were issues that required clarification. Her remarks are expected to intensify the ongoing debate over the administration and functioning of the actors’ body.

The turmoil unfolded during AMMA’s General Body meeting when a no-confidence motion was reportedly moved against the executive committee headed by Shweta Menon. In response, she informed the gathering that the committee had decided to resign. Following her announcement, the remaining members of the executive committee also tendered their resignations.

The mass resignation has once again exposed deep divisions within AMMA, an organisation that has witnessed several controversies and leadership disputes in recent years. The latest developments suggest that internal conflicts remain unresolved despite repeated efforts to restore stability within the influential body representing Malayalam film artistes.

With the executive committee stepping down and Shweta Menon severing ties with the organisation altogether, AMMA now faces the challenge of restoring unity and confidence among its members while navigating another period of uncertainty and internal dissent.
