Nair Service Society (NSS) General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair on Wednesday strongly rejected allegations levelled by former minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar against the organisation and its leadership, challenging him to approach the courts if he believed there was no internal democracy in the NSS.
Responding to the criticism, Sukumaran Nair said he had no intention of engaging in a prolonged public exchange with Ganesh Kumar. He accused the former minister of making personal remarks and alleged that he was now siding with groups seeking to weaken the NSS.
Sukumaran Nair said attempts to mobilise various sections against him or the organisation would not succeed. He maintained that he had committed no wrongdoing that would compel him to bow to pressure or change the organisation’s position.
Rejecting allegations that people had been denied entry to the Mannam Samadhi at Perunna, the NSS leader said nobody had been prevented from visiting the memorial. However, he defended restrictions on taking dogs inside, saying the community regarded the memorial with the sanctity of a temple.
Sukumaran Nair also dismissed accusations that members of his family had been improperly appointed to positions in NSS institutions. He said appointments were made according to established procedures and asserted that those making allegations were free to investigate them.
Defending the leadership’s authority over affiliated unions, Sukumaran Nair said the NSS would not hesitate to dissolve unions whenever circumstances warranted disciplinary action, irrespective of when such decisions had to be taken.
He also questioned what he described as inconsistencies between Ganesh Kumar’s public statements and actions.
The sharp response signals that the confrontation between the NSS leadership and the former minister is unlikely to subside, with Sukumaran Nair making clear that the organisation would firmly defend its decisions and internal functioning.
