GURUVAYUR: A Tamil Nadu-based businessman has offered a gold crown weighing approximately 37 sovereigns to Lord Guruvayurappan at the famed Sree Krishna Temple in Guruvayur, adding to the series of valuable offerings made by devotees at one of Kerala’s most revered pilgrimage centres.
The intricately crafted crown, studded with ornamental stones, was donated by Tiruppur industrialist Rajan P. Nair during a special ceremony held at the temple on Friday morning. The offering was formally received by the Guruvayur Devaswom in the presence of temple officials, members of the Devaswom Managing Committee, the donor’s family and devotees.
The ceremonial handover took place at the sacred Sopanam steps of the temple. As part of the day’s rituals, the newly donated crown was adorned on the idol of Lord Guruvayurappan during the noon pooja, allowing thousands of devotees who had gathered for worship to witness the deity wearing the new ornament.
Those present on the occasion included Guruvayur Devaswom Managing Committee member C. Manoj, Deputy Administrator M. Radha and Assistant Manager M. Haridas.
In keeping with temple tradition, Rajan P. Nair and his family were honoured with prasadam from the temple, including kalabham, the sacred Thirumudi garland, fruits and sugar, in recognition of their devotional offering.
The donation comes close on the heels of another major offering made to the temple. On June 18, Gopu Nandilath, Chairman of the Nandilath Group, presented a gold crown weighing around 25 sovereigns to Lord Guruvayurappan on the auspicious last Thursday of the Malayalam month of Mithunam.
The back-to-back donations reflect the enduring faith of devotees in Guruvayurappan and reaffirm the temple’s status as one of South India’s most prominent centres of worship, where offerings of gold ornaments and other valuables continue to symbolise devotion, gratitude and spiritual fulfilment.
