Letter controversy of Thiruvananthapuram Mayor: Kerala BJP to complain Governor

The Kerala Unit of the BJP is to approach the state Governor, Arif Mohammed Khan over the alleged letter written by the Thiruvananthapuram corporation Mayor Arya Rajendran to the CPI-M Thiruvananthapuram district secretary, Anavur Nagappan on reported vacancies in Thiruvananthapuram corporation.

The BJP Thiruvananthapuram district president ,V.V. Rajesh told media persons that the 35 party councilors of the BJP In Thiruvanthapuram corporation will meet the Governor. The councilors including V.V. Rajesh will be meeting the Governor at 12 pm at Rajbhavan on Monday.

The CPI-M which is red faced after a leading Malayalam daily on Saturday brought the story that the Thiruvananthapuram Mayor had written a letter to the party district secretary stating that there are 292 temporary vacancies in the corporation.

Meanwhile the CPI-M state committee and Thiruvananthapuram district committee will be convened on Monday to discuss on the controversy which has led to the party on the defensive.

While the corporation Mayor and Deputy Mayor has dismissed the allegation stating that the letter was a forged one, the CPI-M district secretary, Anavur Nagappan told media persons that he was not aware of such a letter. He also said that he does not know whether it was a forged letter or not.

Even 24 hours after the report had come up, the CPI-M has not approached the police or had given a formal complaint to the police.

The Kerala Government and the Governor Arif Mohammed Khan are in a slugfest over several issues including the appointment of  Vice Chancellors to 11 universities of the state. The Governor has also stated in the open that he had withdrawn pleasure against the Kerala finance minister , K.N. Balagopal on the minister’s speech at a Kerala University programme comparing the universities of Uttar Pradesh and Kerala. It may be noted that Arif Mohammed Khan is a native of UP and this statement of the minister was seen as a snub to the Governor.

It has to be seen as to how the Governor will react when the BJP councilors of Thiruvananthapuram corporation will be meeting him on Monday.
